Is a fishing permit mandatory in Croatia?
Yes. A valid permit is required by law for all forms of recreational or sport sea fishing. In addition, every angler must hold a valid annual Croatian Sea Sport Fishing Federation (HSSRM) membership card for the current calendar year.
How much does a fishing permit cost?
Prices depend on permit duration and the angler’s age. For example, a daily permit for adults costs €7.96, a three-day permit €19.91, and a weekly permit €39.82. An annual sport fishing permit is available until 1 March of the current year and costs €46.45. Special permits (big game, trawling, parangals, artificial light...) are charged separately. Anglers must also hold an HSSRM card for the current year (€10). A €5 administrative fee applies to all requests.
Is there a deadline for buying an annual permit?
Annual permits can only be purchased during a limited period — from 1 December of the year before validity until 1 March. The permit is valid for the calendar year (1 January to 31 December), regardless of the purchase date.
What are the penalties for fishing without a permit?
Fishing without a valid permit is treated as an offence. Fines can exceed €5,000, with possible confiscation of equipment and catch. Permits are issued in minutes, so we recommend obtaining one before heading out to sea.
When will I receive my permit and how?
The permit is issued upon receipt of payment and sent to the email address provided in the form. We process requests within 48 hours of receipt and aim to process them as quickly as possible. If you need urgent issuance, you can send a message via WhatsApp.
How much fish am I allowed to catch?
The daily limit for sport sea fishing is 5 kg per person per day, or one trophy specimen (if that specimen exceeds 5 kg). Certain protected species have minimum sizes below which they must be released. Fishing for sale is not permitted under a sport or recreational permit.
Do children need a permit?
Minors under 18 are entitled to special, reduced-price permits. For minors there is a special multi-day permit for 150 days as well as an annual permit at reduced prices. Children under 14 do not have a separately regulated status, so we recommend checking current regulations or contacting us for advice.
Can I buy a permit for the whole family or group?
Each person who actively fishes must have their own permit — permits are not transferable or shareable. For a family or group, a separate application is required for each person. If you plan to fish in a larger group, we recommend submitting requests in advance so we can process all permits on time.
Can I fish on a boat under a foreign flag?
Yes. A permit for sport sea fishing in Croatian waters is mandatory for every person fishing in Croatian maritime waters, regardless of the vessel’s flag state. The permit is issued to the person, not the vessel. Every crew member holding a rod must have their own valid permit.
What is an HSSRM card and why do I need one?
HSSRM (Croatian Sea Sport Fishing Federation) is the national federation that regulates sport sea fishing in Croatia and is the competent body for issuing permits. The annual HSSRM membership card is a mandatory requirement for obtaining a sport fishing permit and is valid for the current calendar year (1 January – 31 December), regardless of the purchase date. If you already hold a valid card, enter its number in the form. If you do not, ŠRD Koralj will issue it together with your permit for a fee of €10.
